Postgraduate Computer Science Degrees

We offer postgraduate Computer Science degrees with the following qualifications accredited by MQA:

  • Doctor of Philosophy (Computer Science) - MQA/FA 7170
  • Master of Science (Computer Science) by research - MQA/FA 7164


  • Full time (4-8 semesters)
  • Part time (6-12 semesters)
Entry requirements for PhD(CS):
  • A Master Degree from any IPT approved by the Senate; OR
  • Other equivalent qualifications to a Masters Degree and possessing other qualifications or experience as approved by the Senate; OR
  • Candidates who are registered as Master of Philosophy (MPhil) candidates at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah and have obtained approval to upgrade by the School Postgraduate Committee and approved by the Senate; OR
  • A First Class Bachelor Degree in Computer Science with Honours from Universiti Malaysia Sabah or any other IPT approved by the School Postgraduate Committee/Centre of Postgraduate Studies and recognized by Senate; OR
  • Master of Computer Science by coursework degree with at least grade B for dissertation. Candidates graduated without the submission of a dissertation are required to have CGPA of at least 3.5 and is required to attend Research Methodology; OR
  • Fulfil other requirements as set by the Senate.

MSc by research

  • Full time (1-3 years)
  • Part time (2-4 years)
Entry requirements for MSc(CS):
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science/ Information Technology or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent. OR
  • A first degree or equivalent in any subjects other than Computer Science/ Information Technology with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent in which the applicant may be accepted for admission into the master programme, provided that all prerequisite modules in computing have been taken to adequately prepare them to pursue the Master of Computer Science. OR
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science/ Information Technology or equivalent with CGPA less than 2.50 provided that the applicant has at least five (5) years of direct working experience in the ICT industry.
  • Degrees awarded by local/ private institutions of higher learning, including those awarded under any collaborative/ franchising schemes with local or foreign partners must be accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

For International Applicants:

  • A minimum score of 550 in TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
  • A minimum score of 5.0 in IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

For Malaysian Applicants, a minimum score of band 3 in MUET (Malaysian University English Test)
