From 2nd to 4th February 2016, FCI organised a Survey Paper Writing Workshop for its academic staff and postgraduate students at the Seminar Room, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Sabah.
The workshop was delivered by Professor Dr Abdullah Gani, the Dean of Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universiti Malaya. Professor Abdullah is a Visiting Professor at FCI. His experience in writing, supervising and publishing academic work can be seen from his impressive publication list. It was because of this, FCI invited him to share his knowledge with us.
During the three day workshop, participants learned the fundamentals of writing a survey paper and received hands-on training under Professor Abdullah for drafting potential publications. Each participant was given guidance in their respective papers. At the end of the workshop, each participant succeeded in finishing a draft for a paper.
The faculty has set the output of one survey paper per participant as a Key Performance Indicator for those involved in the workshop. The aim is for the drafts that were prepared in the workshop to be published in a journal within 6 months.
The workshop received extremely positive feedback from those who participated. All participants felt the workshop was very effective in motivating them to publish their work.
Everyone at FCI are very grateful to Professor Abdullah for delivering the workshop and guiding our members in improving our academic skills. We hope to have him visit us again in the future.
