From the 5th to 7th of April 2016, the Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FCI) played host to the International Conference on Information and Communication Technology 2016 (IC-ICT4T 2016) in

cooperation with the conference’s main organiser, the School of Computing (SOC), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). The venue for the conference was The Centre for Postgraduate Studies, Universiti

Malaysia Sabah. This year’s conference theme was “Digital Opportunities: Serving the Underserved”. The Opening Ceremony was held on the 5th of April and officiated by UMS Vice Chancellor, Professor

Datuk Dr Mohd Harun Abdullah, who was represented by Deputy VC (Academic Affairs and Internationalisation) Professor Dr D Kamarudin D Mudin. UUM’s Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research

and Innovation) Professor Dr Noor Azizi Ismail was in attendance representing their Vice Chancellor, Professor Dato' Wira Dr.Mohamed Mustafa Ishak. The keynote speaker for the conference was Mr

Toh Swee Hoe, the Advisor for the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commissions (MCMC) Academy. The conference attracted more than 80 participants consisting of academicians, practitioners, policy makers and members of organisations that promote ICT for Transformation. During the conference, the participants were able to share knowledge on their experience in promoting ICT4T in their

respective communities and institutions. Papers and presentations during the conference discussed many challenges facing ICT4T today. The conference was a success in bringing about many experts in this field to forge connections which would hopefully lead to future ICT4T project development. Members of UUM’s committee commended UMS and Kota Kinabalu as host and venue for the conference. We at FCI hope that this partnership between us and SOC will continue and bring about future collaboration that will benefit both institutions.
