PERFORMANCE ESTIMATION OF VoIP OVER WLAN USING DIFFERENT TYPE OF CODES
Authors: Reena Sorfiana binti Rodrigo and Kashif Nisar
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) systems convert voice communications to data packets. If people are using application such as Skype they are already using VoIP technology. In fact, VoIP had become the way of communication of long distance easier as it make phone calls through internet. The communication can occur between computer to computer, computer to phone and also phone to phone. Quality of Services (QoS) is the important issue that arise in VoIP over Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) technology. The QoS is partly depends on the chosen type of codec. By conducting this research, the best type of codec used for the VoIP over WLAN can be determined by using Riverbed Modeler Academic Edition 17.5 as the simulation tool. Mainly, there are several type of codec that will be studied during conducting this research paper. After conducting the simulation process, it is found that encoder scheme G.711 is the best codec used for VoIP over WLAN and Ethernet LAN.
