Welcome to the Borneo Heritage Research Unit (BoHRU), Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage, University Malaysia Sabah website. It is our sincere hope that this website will provide you with useful information regarding this research unit. BoHRU was formed in 2013 with the main aim of focusing on research and studies related to the heritage of the multi ethnic groups residing in the island of Borneo, which encompasses Sabah and Sarawak of Malaysia, Kalimantan of Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam.
The island and the indigenous people of Borneo, renowned for for its rich sociocultural and historical diversity and heritage , provide a wealth of opportunities for BoHRU to explore.. Headed and staffed by committed and abled research fellows, BoHRU is committed to strive for excellence in all areas of research related to the traditional beliefs systems, rituals, planting cultures, dances, costumes, music, folklore and so forth.
Acknowledging the importance of wider research fellows and communities, both internally and locally, BoHRU is always ready and committed to cooperate or collaborate with any research unit/institute/organisation from related universities in matters related to heritage research, organizing academic seminars, conferences as well as academic publication. Academicians who are interested or currently involved in the field of Borneo heritage research from all over the world are welcome to join us as a voluntary research fellow or associate research fellow in BoHRU.
