Dean, Faculty of Psychology and Education

Bismillahirrohmanirrohim. Assalamualaikum, Salam Satu Malaysia and welcome to FPP.
I am pleased that the Faculty of Psychology and Education is one of the ten faculties which provides various courses for the undergraduate and postgraduate students in University Malaysia Sabah. At the bachelor level, Faculty of Psychology and Education offers ten academic programmes; five of those are from the Psychology Department, while the other five are from the Education Department.  In addition, this faculty offers Bachelor of Psychology (Hons.) degrees in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Youth Development and Community, Counselling Psychology, Child and Family Psychology, and Social Work. The programmes offered by the faculty are greatly connected to the psychology and education expertise from both departments.

At the postgraduate level, the faculty offers masters programmes in two modes: research mode and coursework. The Psychology Department offers Masters of Philosophy and Doctor Philosophy. Both are offered in the research mode. The Education Department offers full-time and part-time modes for masters and doctorate degrees. The programmes offered are Teacher Education, Curriculum, Education Management, Development of Organization in Education, Sociology Education, and Science in Education, Social Science, Economy, Education with TESL and Sports Science.  

The programmes offered are relevant to meet the current needs of collective transformation.  The faculty is confident in producing secondary school teachers who are qualified, competitive and competent in achieving the visions of the Ministry of Education as well as enhancing the Malaysian education system at par with international standards. The faculty is confident to churn out future teachers who ‘teach with heart’. In addition, courses related to social works are able to develop future social workers who are dedicated, innovative and unbiased in handling social problems. With a total of 6463 students in the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, the faculty is confident that the university is able to contribute to quality human capital.

The faculty is determined to achieve excellence, which is in line with the university’s motto ‘Strive to Excel’. Hence, the faculty is committed to excel in teaching, publication, research, community service and innovation. The faculty hosts a team of motivated and experienced academic experts in the fields of administration, leadership, management social corporate responsibility, primary, secondary and higher education, curriculum development, industrial psychology and social work. The courses offered by the faculty emphasize social skills such as cooperation and teamwork among the students. The faculty is committed to provide quality education which develops students’ life skills through business simulations, industrial projects and community projects.
