The Environmental Science degree programme is an interdisciplinary course that emphasises the role of basic scientific understanding and practical skills in the laboratory and field for the understanding and management of environmental problems. These broad range of modules allow students to specialise and yet to maintain a broad environmental science portfolio, while having a strong basis in the skills and knowledge of an environmental scientist.

PROGRAMME AIMS

The Environmental Science Programme prepares students to be competent and employablegraduates for the private or public sectors, graduate schools or as entrepreneurs by providing sufficient theory, knowledge and skills in environmental science. The curriculum is designed to produce environmental scientist with strong fundamental knowledge and skills in environmental science that is able to think, analyze and apply to support the development of human capital for the nation.

Programme Learning Outcomes

Programme learning outcomes are the specific skills and knowledge that Environmental Science students are expected to have obtained at the time of their graduation from the programme. Students graduating from Environmental Science Programme in the Faculty of Science and Natural Resources will be prepared and expected to exercise their 9 skills and abilities as listed below:

PLO2: Ability to conduct practical skills/ practical/ psychomotor competently and safely in environmental science

PLO3: Ability to formulate, evaluate, organize and implement effective strategies to solve problems using scientific skills in environmental science

MENTOR MENTEE SYSTEM

 

The purpose of mentor mentee system in Environmental Science Program is basically to assist student on academic mattersAll new and current students in the program are encouraged to meet with their assign mentors and discuss about plan and performance regarding on academic on a regular basis: at least twice in a semester. The mentor will act as an academic advisor in assisting their mentees to gain an understanding of the curriculum,guidance regarding on academic problems and give some motivation. Appointments for meetings between mentor and mentee are usually arranged for a time and place suitable to both. However, there are some matters which mentor cannot handle such as medical, finance etc. This should be directed to the appropriate authority or resource person such as UMS counselor, Head of Program, Deputy Dean (HEP) or the Dean. A written report of each meeting should be prepared and all reports will be filed in the students’ faculty files. 

 

Laboratory

There are 11 environmental science laboratories provided for students to ensure the smoothness of research and learning process. Most of the laboratories are filled with necessary equipment depending on the importance and usage of the research. For the operation of the laboratories, each lab has one lab assistant to prepare the equipment and to make sure all the equipment is well maintained for the student’s usage.
