Research activities at the Biotechnology Research Institute cover a wide range of topics, with emphasis on the three thrust areas, viz. Agrobiotechnology, Healthcare Biotechnology and Industrial Biotechnology. The main research objective at the BRI is to harness the natural resources of Sabah through biotechnology in order to generate commercially-viable products. Among the research programmes at the BRI are:

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

  1. To offer theoretical knowledge and advance skills to candidates regarding theories and techniques in molecular biology.
  2. To equip candidates with the relevant knowledge required for research in the field of molecular biology and biotechnology.
  3. To prepare candidates for PhD in other areas of Biotechnology.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Postgraduate Diploma in Molecular Biology

  1. Bachelor of science with second class, or having a minimum CGPA of 2.5, in life sciences (biology) or equivalent, from universities recognised by the Senate.
  2. Other qualifications equivalent to Bachelor degree or 3 years experience in relevant field recognised by the Senate.
  3. Candidates should pass English paper in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or other relevant qualifications recognised by the Senate (example: TOEFL, IELTS etc.)
  4. Candidates will be screened by the Biotechnology Research Institute Postgraduate Committee.

Master of Science in Molecular Biology

  1. Bachelor of science with second class, or having a minimum CGPA of 2.75, in life sciences (biology) or equivalent, from universities recognised by the Senate
  2. Other qualifications equivalent to Bachelor degree and relevant experience recognised by the Senate
  3. Candidates should pass English paper in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or other relevant qualifications recognised by the Senate (example: TOEFL, IELTS etc.)
 
DURATION OF STUDY
Postgraduate Diploma in Molecular Biology: 3 semesters (maximum 4 semesters).

Master of Science in Molecular Biology: 4 semesters (maximum 6 semesters).
