| BRI's research focused on three main areas: Agrobiotechnology,
Healthcare Biotechnology and Industrial
Biotechnology, which areas outlined in the National
Biotechnology Policy and 9th Malaysian Plan. BRI currently undertakes
research with a focus on the fundamental aspects at the molecular
and cellular levels towards the discovery and innovation of
novel products.
New areas of biotechnology research will be developed at
BRI to incorporate biochemical, cytobiological and molecular
biological methods which will allow better understanding of
the basic mechanisms of gene expression, cell division, cell
differentiation and cellular metabolic activities. In order
to maintain BRI’s competitiveness in biotechnology research
globally, research is focused on niche areas which exploit
the abundant natural resources available readily in Sabah
for commercializable biotechnological outputs. |
