BIOTECHNOLOGY SYMPOSIUM IV

"Harnessing Biological Resources Through Biotechnology"

1st - 3rd December 2010

||| INTRODUCTION

The tropical regions of the world exhibit a high degree of species endemism and offer exciting opportunities for the discovery and application of biological resources. Malaysia, is one of the hotspots of biological diversity, and the state of Sabah, located in the northern part of Borneo, hosts one of the highest levels of species diversity which encompasses microbes and macroflora and macrofauna.

The symposium will focus on discoveries made during the process of biological research and their subsequent application in biotechnology. This will include genomic information, unique biological processes and the manner in which this information can be applied to develop a better understanding of the evolutionary processes, genomic organization and application of this information for the benefit of humanity.

The symposium will be of relevance to principal investigators, research students and policy makers involved in the characterization and application of biological processes and biological resources. The symposium sessions have been designed to address various aspects of biotechnology ranging from the fundamental aspects of genomics to the application of biotechnology in agriculture, healthcare, bioprocessing and food. Sessions will also include regulatory aspects of Biotechnology and Bioethics.

Participants are invited to submit papers in the following areas:

  • Novel Compounds
  • Recombinant Molecules
  • Molecular Markers
  • RNA Interference
  • Biomass Productions
  • Bioremediation
  • Bioprocessing and High Throughput Technologies
  • Plant Transformation and Tissue Culture
  • Genomics, Transcriptomics and Metabolomics
  • Bioinformatics
  • Proteomics
  • Next Generation Sequencing
  • System Biology
