Malaysia Sabah ventured into aquaculture and marine science
research in 1995 with the establishment
of the Borneo Marine Research Unit. The Unit had developed
by leaps and bounds in subsequent years, and was upgraded
to the status of a full-fledged Borneo Marine Research

Borneo Marine Research Institute (BMRI) was established in June 2000 from it's inception as a research unit in 1995. BMRI envisions to promote research, development and commercialisation in the area of aquaculture and marine science in Malaysia.
