BACKGROUND
Borneo Marine Research Institute (BMRI) was initially established in 1995 as
a research unit with the objective to promote research in the field of marine
science in Sabah. The unit was upgraded to institute
status since June 2000. |
BMRI is one of the centre
of excellence in UMS specializing in research, development
and commercialization of aquatic
resources with particularly emphasis in aquaculture and
marine science.

OBJECTIVES
- to promote research, development and commercialization
of aquatic resources.
- to create knowledge workers in aquaculture, marine science
and marine biotechnology.
- to disseminate information on aquaculture, marine biodiversity
and conservation.

VISION
Be a globally
recognized centre of excellence that provides
the scientific foundation for conservation
and management of marine ecosystem and sustainable
development of renewable aquatic resources
through aquaculture.
MISSION
- To undertake scholarly research in need-based
areas of marine science and aquaculture.
- To provide high-quality education, hands-on
experience and training in marine science
and sustainable aquaculture.
- To disseminate knowledge and facilitate
its application to scientific, social and
economic problems related to marine environment
and aquaculture.
CLIENT CHARTER
The Institute strives to provide timely access
to information concerning its educational programmes,
research
and development activities, and consultancy
and advisory services.
The Institute's
marine aquarium and museum facilities are
open to the public for mass education, and
an operational hatchery is avilable for aquaculture
training.
Facilities are also made available for marine
expeditions.
