The Slope Mass Rating (SMR) is obtained from basic RMR by adding an adjustment factor. The adjustment factor consist of parallelism between discontinuities and slope, discontinuities dip angle in failure modes, relationship between slope and discontinuities dips and method of excavation. The SMR system was applied to four rocks cut slope (B1, B2, B3 and B4) of the Crocker Formation in Tamparuli, Sabah. The result shows that the first sub-parameter of parallelism between discontinuity and slope (F1) are sometimes incorrect and inconsistence. To make the calculation of the F1 sub-parameter more accurate, easier and without assumption, the new approach of adjustment factor calculation are proposed in this paper.
