INTRODUCTION

The Centre for the Promotion of Knowledge and Language Learning (CPKLL) in Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) was established at the end of 1994. The Centre aims to achieve the University's vision to produce graduates and postgraduates equipped with a wide range of skills in various fields of study. At the postgraduate level, it offers two levels of programmes, namely (i) Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) by Research, and (ii) Master of Arts (M.A.) by Research in six major fields of study, which are English Language Studies, Linguistics, Islamic Studies, Political Science, Cultural Studies and Civilization Studies.
