UMS, May, 27th - A total of 246 new students from Preparatory Center for Science and Technology, UMS concluded the orientation week with oath taking and pledge ceremony in the new building. The Centre welcomed 85 male and 161 female students to science foundation program 2017 / 2018 session. This is the eighth intake and will be the first batch undergoes the two-semester program.

The orientation week or also known as Minggu Suai Mesra (MSM) lasted 4 days till 27th of May 2017. The students went through registration process, academic talks and inauguration of closing ceremony. Furthermore, they were also briefed on the skills to adapt in the new learning environment and rules in the university.

Assc. Prof Dr. Sazmal Effendi Arshad, Director of PPST, in his welcoming speech said that studying in science foundation program is a transition process from school culture to university environment and along the way new challenges will be confronted. He emphasized that success comes with persistent, determination and preseverance. He added that negative thoughts and behaviour will be detrimental.

The ceremony was officiated by Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah, Vice Chancellor of UMS. He expressed his support to the Centre and welcomed the new students. "Universiti Malaysia Sabah is responsible in promoting knowledge and producing high quality education. The university provides guidance and learning opportunities in innovation friendly environment.” He added on the importance of working together in fulfilling the mission and vision of the university so that we will continue to move forward.

Also present are Prof. Dr. Baba Musta, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Natural Resource; Prof. Dr. Zainal Arifin bin Mustapha, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and officers from varies departments in UMS. The ceremony ended with a photography session with the students and staffs.
