Over 90 fifth formers from 12 secondary schools around Sabah have benefitted from the SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) Excelerate Workshop held on the 9th and 10th September 2017.

It was organised by Preparatory Centre of Science and Technology, University Malaysia Sabah.

In its third year, this year’s workshop was conducted by Mr Lee Chiong Tee, Mr Liew Voon Hong, Ms Chong Siow Han, and Mrs Chin Syuk Man who are the senior SPM examiners with more than 10 years’ experience.

The main objective of this workshop is to help students prepare for the coming public examination by equipping them with knowledge and techniques to tackle the Additional Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology exam papers. The workshop gave students the chance to gain first-hand tips from experienced teachers in these four subjects.

The speakers went through common exam questions so that students could narrow down their focus when studying. They also pointed out common mistakes made by students and gave tips on how to overcome them.

The students came from the Kota Kinabalu with some coming from as far as Kuala Penyu and Lahad Datu. Among the participating schools were SMK Tebobon Kota Kinabalu, SMK Limbanak Penampang, SMK Menumbok, SMKA Tun Said Kota Belud, SMK Arshad Kota Belud, SMK Kota Marudu, SM Saint John Beaufort, SMK Kuala Penyu, and SM Sains Lahad Datu.

PPST director Prof. Madya Dr. Sazmal Effendi Arshad said the programme was part of the centre’s long term commitment to promote Science education and its prospects among the local community.
