Project: Biomimetic Robotic Shark

Underwater autonomous device capable of locomotion in liquid environment has become a popular area of interest as technology closes the gap to match with reality. However it is, nature in liquid environment is complex, which needs to overcome manoeuvrability, mechanism robustness, speed, operation duration and control system still pose major challenges. Current trend of research works are experimenting on aquatic animal inspired concept to mimic the mother nature of fish swimming to provide better option for a far more dynamic and efficient technique in underwater applications.

Project: Characterisation of Thermal Properties for the Rectangular Flat Membrane Module in Vacuum Membrane Distillation
Membrane Technology Research Group
Membrane distillation (MD) is a separation process where vapours are thermally driven through a porous hydrophobic membrane. The MD is competitive with other separation technology such as reverse osmosis desalination. The objective of this project is to develop a heat transfer correlation especially for a home-made rectangular flat membrane module for vacuum MD application.

Project: Optimization of Single Slope Solar Still to Desalinate Seawater for Hydrogen Harvesting Application

The single slope solar still is a fundamental distillation device that utilizes the solar irradiance from sunlight to distill clean water from seawater or brackish water sources. The maturity of single slope solar still technology can provide people in rural areas with convenient clean water supply. The purpose of this project is to investigate the optimum operating conditions of a single slope solar still to desalinate seawater under Kota Kinabalu, Sabah climate, and further optimize its performance in order to collect more clean water or be further utilized in hydrogen gas production for renewable energy applications.
