MONDAY, 20 APRIL – A total of 70 undergrads of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) had recently joined the True Leadership Camp programme organised by the Exco of Academic and Career Student Welfare Committee (JAKMAS) of Residential College Tun Mustapha in collaboration with the Sabah Youth Council.
Deputy Principal of the College, Herman Sallah said, the programme was held for three days and two nights at Kampung Tambatuon, Kota Belud and aimed at educating undergrads into caring and appreciating their environment in addition to strengthening the their leadership quality.
“Undergrads today need to be absorbed with leadership quality through outdoor activities besides attending lectures because knowledge on nature may not be available in a student learning and teaching session,” he said when closing the programme.
He described a person who was able to self lead would also be able to lead others and their family, and added that such camps would produce undergrads who can be leaders and agents to other undergrads to build their character and high self-esteem.
For Mohd Szami Solehin Jasni, 21, the camp had a positive impact on him through the activities organised such as jungle trekking and Group Training (LDK).
“This camp also exposes undergrads to village atmosphere besides fostering a sense of care for the environment by organising it in a virgin forest,” he added.
Part of the activities of the camp were jungle trekking, aerobics and talentime. – ZMD (fl)
