– The Non-Destructive Testing Association (NDT) Malaysia in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) held a seminar on ‘Optimising Benefit for NDT Technology for Better Plant Safety and Integrity’ at Le’ Meridien Hotel today.
The seminar, which was participated by 40 participants from various industries among others was aimed at exposing several issues and the direction of NDT in Malaysia.
According to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Innovation UMS, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shahril Yusof, such seminars were highly needed in Sabah, more so when the state recently experienced a pipeline explosion that was carrying gas across Sabah.
“This seminar is also to raise awareness on career opportunities as well as businesses in the field of NDT that is still not much ventured into by the people of Sabah,” he said in his speech at the opening of the seminar. His speech was read by the Director of Research and Innovation Centre UMS, Prof. Dr. Felix Tongkul.
The NDT Association led by its President, Dr. Abd. Nassir Ibrahim will continue to work closely with the Industrial Relations Centre, UMS to train more technicians or NDT operators as well as enhancing research in this field. – SS (fl)
