– In order to strengthen the safety aspects of staff and students of the university, a Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Auxiliary Police Force was formed with the approval of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), which is expected to be in August.
The application to form the UMS Auxiliary Police Force is currently in its final process by PDRM, and will boost the safety aspect of the campus through comprehensive enforcement in safety, legal aspects that are more distinct, more efficient physical safety management, decrease of in-campus crime index and enhancing the image and confidence of UMS staff and students.
This was stated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Harun Abdullah in his speech when launching the new uniforms and the closing ceremony of the UMS Basic Security Guards Course Series 7/2014 at UMS Parade Field.
“In line with the establishment plan, the management has agreed to change the colour of the uniforms of the Security Division force from brown to blue.
“The justification of the colour change is to avoid the increase in cost when making new uniforms following the switch to Auxiliary Police later,” he said.
Commenting on the Basic Security Guard Course required for each security guard when they first report for work at UMS, Datuk Harun said the course was necessary to foster the spirit of team-work, be disciplined and to equip every security personnel with the knowledge of proper self-defence.
“This 4-week course includes rugged training and martial arts skills, it is not meant to burden or torture our personnel but to equip them with the basic needs as a member of the Security Division,” he concluded. – MA (fl)Photo: Johaidi IsmailMedia and Citra DivisionChancellery Department
