WEDNESDAY, 04 SEPTEMBER –
The Media and Education Technology Unit (UMTP) will now be known as Department of Information Technology and Communication (JTMK) starting today.
The renaming ceremony was done by the Vice-Chancellor of UMS, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor said that the upgrading to JTMK was in line with the University’s strategic planning to ensure the information technology component contributes towards education, teaching and learning, research, publication and administration.
“It is in line with the Higher Education Strategic Planning needs to expand the Learning Management System and to solidify its delivery system such as the needs of Thrusts 6 and 7,” he said. Also present were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr. Shahril Yusof, Head Librarian, Dg. Rukiah Ag. Amit and the Acting Head of JTMK, Noor Hapipah Samat.
Datuk Dr. Harun said that the University intended to empower and enhance the structure including the function of JTMK through this renaming exercise to achieve the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) which targeted that 50% of government services be made ready on-line until the end of 2012 and 90% by the year 2015.
“Thus, I hope UMTP now known as JTMK will be able to coordinate, supervise, standardise and implement the operation, usage, development and operation of ICT in UMS,” he said. - FL
