JC IN MEMORIESFRIDAY, 22 AUGUST – More than 200 Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) staff and students observed a moment of silence to remember the passing of the late Ng Shi Ing, a lecturer who was one of the victims of MH17 fatality last July.

The Mourning Ceremony in conjunction with the National Day of Mourning was held in a solemn and sombre mood with none of those present could withhold their tears when a video of ‘JC In Memory’ was shown at the screen at the Mini Auditorium of the Faculty of Psychology and Education (FPP).

FPP Dean, Prof. Dr. Ismail Ibrahim, described the demise of Ng Shi Ing as an irreplaceable loss.

“She was a dynamic young lecturer. She went to Belgium to fulfill her work obligation to present papers at an international conference,” he told reporters after the ceremony.

Prof. Dr. Ismail also said that the deceased husband, LT Commander Lee Vee Weng had informed him about the discovery of the body of the deceased and was expected to be brought back to Malaysia tomorrow.

“However, the body of his son, Benjamin Lee Jian Han has not been found and we hope that the investigating team could find the body of his son as soon as possible,” he added.

Also present to pay their last respects were Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Jainab Ahmad; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) UMS, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ismail Ali and senior officials of the university. – ZMD (fl)
