Faculty of Engineering Hosts Workshop on Elevating Research Group Status

On August 14, 2024, the Faculty of Engineering held a workshop titled "Elevation of Research Groups Status" for its academic staff. The event aimed to empower the faculty's research groups to enhance their productivity and impact.


The workshop featured a keynote address by Datuk Prof. ChM. Ts. Dr. Taufiq Yap Yun Hin from Universiti Putra Malaysia. In his speech, titled "From Scratch to the Spotlight: Building a World-Class Lab through Effective Collaboration and Research Visibility," Prof. Taufiq, who served as the Vice Chancellor of UMS from July 2019 to July 2022, shared insights from his experience in establishing the Catalysis Science and Technology Centre (PutraCAT). PutraCAT is recognized globally as a multidisciplinary laboratory of excellence in catalysis research. Prof. Taufiq emphasized the importance of research collaboration, highlighting that building a strong network is crucial to the success of any research group. He also encouraged participants to persist in submitting papers to top-tier journals, despite the challenges of rejection.
The workshop began with a welcome address by Prof. Ir. Dr. Rosalam Sarbatly, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation. Prof. Rosalam discussed the university's policies concerning research groups, research laboratories, and centres of excellence, setting the stage for the day's discussions.
