Faculty of Engineering Hosts Talk on the Importance of University Research

On October 29, 2024, the Faculty of Engineering hosted the second installment of the series "Research in University: Why It Is So Important to Us as Lecturers." The talk was delivered by Professor Ts. Dr. Uda Hashim, a distinguished recent addition to Faculty of Engineering’s academic team. Prior to joining UMS, Prof. Uda served as the Director at the Institute of Nano Electronic Engineering and as Deputy Vice Chancellor at Universiti Malaysia Perlis. He is a prominent researcher in microelectronics and nanoelectronics, particularly known for his work on biosensors and medical devices.
In his presentation, Prof. Uda shared insights from his extensive experience and success as a researcher, aiming to inspire improvements within the faculty’s research ecosystem. He emphasized the importance of strong industry ties to cultivate a productive research environment. Prof. Uda highlighted that industry partnerships can help identify valuable research challenges, while also encouraging industry professionals to pursue postgraduate studies at UMS. He urged lecturers to embrace the role of "guru" by establishing laboratories that attract collaboration from peers at other institutions. Concluding his talk, Prof. Uda encouraged attendees to strive for excellence in research by setting goals beyond expectations and above ambitions.
