Message from The Dean's

On behalf of the faculty members and administrative staffs, welcome to the Faculty of Food Science and Nutrition (FSMP), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) website homepage. FSMP, formerly known as the School of Food Science and Nutrition (SSMP), was established in 1997.

To address a more challenging science and technology education in the new millennium, FSMP has provided a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs with a more comprehensive and more exciting approach. Hence, FSMP holds important roles and responsibilities to carry out and lead efforts to develop and enhance Malaysia's food industry, especially Sabah.

FSMP offers four (4) undergraduate programs, Bachelor's degree in Food Science and Nutrition, Bachelor's degree in Food Technology and Bioprocessing, Bachelor's degree in Food Services, and Bachelor's degree in Nutrition. Undergraduate students are able to pursue their future careers in science and have the opportunity to gain knowledge in the various fields of science and social sciences as well as in courses to improve their management and communication skills.

In line with the Vision, Mission, and UMS Strategic Plan, FSMP will make every effort to produce high-quality graduates, competitive, and excellent, contributing to the development and well-being of religion, society, and the country. FSMP undergraduate program allows its graduates to be competitive and capable of enduring the employment environment in various fields and meet the new millennium's challenges.

FSMP also offers postgraduate programs such as Master's Degree in Courses and Research and Doctor of Philosophy (Research) in various specialization fields conducted by trained academic staff in the respective fields. Postgraduate students are given the opportunity to carry out various research supervised by FSMP academicians with interest and research tendency in the latest related field. FSMP always headway in research to generate new knowledge and seek science that can be used to develop the country's progress and development.

FSMP has expertise in almost all food science and nutrition areas that makes it more comprehensive and enjoyable. I am sure the experience gained during studies in FSMP would have a very positive effect. FSMP academicians are very active in research and have acquired many research grants to support these activities and provide student amenities in their research. Research output includes scientific publication of international journals, patents, and awards. FSMP academic staff excel in food science and nutrition research garnering success at national and international levels. FSMP, through research activities and collaboration with the industry is committed to challenges in the new millennium in line with the progress of the nation.
