BMRI is committed to serving the community by way of developing human resources, providing professional opinion on topics requiring knowledge-based decisions and extending training to sections of the coastal community needing assistance in seed production, fish farming operations and stock enhancement.
The institute is also working towards the welfare of coastal fishermen community facing the problem of declining catches. For this purpose, there is an on-going program of recruit-type of ranching of commercially important species. Such programs are conducted with due attention given to habitat feasibility and ecosystem stability.
