Borneo Rich With Forests Treasures: Chief Minister

DSC 5125TUESDAY, 05 AUGUST – The island of Borneo is the third largest island in the world, keeping a wealth of fortune that can benefit the world community.

 

 

 

Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Hj. Aman in his speech said the island of Borneo made up of Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei are important geographically that possess many useful forest products.
 
“Historically, the forests of Borneo is a source of traditional medicines for the residents in the surrounding areas and those who still keep various cures for chronic diseases,” he said. His speech was read by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Seri Panglima Hj Masidi Manjun at the 12th International Borneo Research Council Conference at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).
 
According to him, the wealth at the island of Borneo covers cultural diversity that gave an opportunity to its community to respect and accept each other despite the difference in religions and ethnicity.
 
“I hope that the discussions at this conference will result in a better understanding of Borneo and the issues we are facing today,” he added.
 
Also present were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) UMS, Prof. Dr. Shahril Yusof, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage (FKSW), Prof. Datuk Hamdan hj. Adnan and the Kadazandusun Chair, Prof. Dr. Jacqueline Pugh-Kitingan. – ZMD (fl)
