“Jom Masuk U” Well Received By Students and Parents

SATURDAY, 12 APRIL – The 10th edition of the Higher Education Carnival “Jom Masuk U” organised by the Ministry of Education Malaysia started today with hundreds of school students including their parents and teachers thronged the 50 booths set up for this event.

This is an outreach programme of the Education Ministry since 2005 and has since become their signature programme.

The carnival aimed at providing education information in one place for the benefit of the public.

Media Chancellery UMS had the chance to speak to some visitors; among them was Devonnie Marcilluslee, 18, who just received her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) result. Devonnie who studied at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Likas took the chance to sign up for a culinary course at the carnival. She came to know about the carnival through her friends who spread the news through social media.

Another student, Jeffrey Jumenik, 17, learned about the carnival through flyers given in his school, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Padang Berampah, Sipitang, Sabah. Jeffrey who is the Chairman of the Bahasa Malaysia Club in his school and also a member of the Peer Programme called ‘Pembimbing Rakan Sebaya’ hopes to further his studies to Matriculation and aspires to be a policeman in future. When asked about their transport to Kota Kinabalu, he explained that they had hired a van to ferry their group from Sipitang to 1Borneo Hyper mall where the carnival is held.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni, Assoc. Prof. Datuk Dr. Kasim Hj. Md Mansur also made a round at the carnival. – FL
