Recently, a UMS student created history when he was chosen to represent Malaysia in Snooker.

Sheldon Senagang, a student of Entrepreneurship Programme, Faculty of Business, Economics and Accounting made a name for himself when he was listed as one of the players at the 2015 Asian Snooker Championship which began today in Kuala Lumpur.

He said this in a statement and was quoted to be happy to have been chosen on a national ticket at the event that was also attended by snooker champions around Asia.

“I have been practicing for a few months now for the championship. When the Malaysian list was announced, I was very proud to see my name among those listed. It’s like a dream come true,” he said, according to the statement.

The Asian Snooker Championship will be held for eight days until 30 April. - SS (fl)

NursingWEDNESDAY, 22th APRIL - Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) invites qualified Malaysian citizens to apply their Diploma in Nursing programme for 2015/2016 academic session.

According to the statement issued by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FPSK), the application form can be obtained from Academic and Student Affairs Section Office of the faculty at Block A2, Level 2.

Admission requirements and application form can also be downloaded from FPSK website through this link: http://goo.gl/GnWJv8.

The statement also mention that applicants need to send their application form complete with certified copies of identity card, birth certificate and other academic certificates before or on 4th May 2015.

Eligible candidates will be contacted for interview sessions. Applicants who are not contacted within a month after the closing date of application will be considered as unsuccessful applicant. -ZMD

Parlimen MahasiswaTUESDAY, 21 APRIL – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Student Parliament Sitting was held with arguments and ideas from among student leaders.

Motion and ideas were exchanged through this sitting involving about 50 representatives and convened for the first time at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sabah.

Interestingly, this sitting followed the etiquette and protocol of a real DUN and was chaired by Deputy Speaker of Sabah, Datuk Dr. Johnson Tee.

Earlier, UMS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah said in his speech, the Student Parliament sitting was a proactive approach undertaken by the university’s management to improve the quality of UMS undergrads.

“I hope that this sitting would enable students debate on various current issues of the university in a prudent and responsible way in ensuring the wellbeing of UMS staff and students,” he said expressing his appreciation to the DUN Speaker, Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Mohd Salleh Tun Said Kerouac for allowing the sitting to be held at the state assembly.

Datuk Harun also expressed his sense of pride when UMS became the first Public University (UA) to conduct Student Parliament in DUN.

juara sukanstafTUESDAY, 21st APRIL – D’Arts contingent emerged champion in Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Staff Sports Championship 2015 by collecting 9 golds, 3 silvers and a bronze in the championship.

Golds are collected from Futsal (Female), Badminton (Male and Female), Netball, Basketball, Table Tennis (Male and Female) and also Athletic (Male and Female).

Silvers are contributed from Chess (Female), Sepak Takraw (Male Senior) and Golf while bronze is achieved by Tennis game.

Following in the second place is Super 7 Contingent with 5 golds, a silver and bronze. The third place goes to Royal Esteem with 3 golds, 4 silvers and 2 bronzes.

UMS Staff Sports Championship was held in two days in 17 and 18 April with 23 sports are contested.

The championship closing ceremony was officiated by Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ismail Ali. -MA(JA)-

PERMAPPSTUESDAY, 21 APRIL – The Psychology, Education and Sports Students Association (PERMAPPS) Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) recently held a benchmarking programme involving Sepagaya Secondary School (SMK), Lahad Datu.

Programme Director, Datu Rosman Datuk Ahir Zaman said the three-day programme was attended by 32 students and six teachers of SMK Sepagaya including nine chaperons.

“The visit is an effort and commitment of PERMAPPS to be a role model to students. It is also a cooperation between the school and faculty to expose students to life in university,” he said when met by media after the programme.

He added that the programme also aimed to inject and improve the undergrads’ soft skills to be versatile graduates.

Meanwhile, Head of Publicity Department FELDA at the Prime Minister’s Department Sabah, Asmarah Rikun said, studying in the university required a lot of sacrifice and hard work.

“Poverty is no longer a reason not to continue their studies into university but depends on the effort and intention of the students,” he said.

Various activities will be held during the programme including briefings on public speaking, knowledge sharing and training sessions in groups that emphasize on motivation and leadership. – ZMD (fl)
