
The speaker was an award recipient of the National Artiste Award Artistic Category, Khalid Salleh who is also an actor, theatre activist, master of ceremony and writer. While delivering his talk, he injected his life experiences saying that in his quest for knowledge to study the lifestyle of society he lived the life of a hobo and living in a hut.
He said the search for knowledge was not only limited to learning sessions in school and the like but also through observation and everyday life experiences. This winner of Best Male Actor at the Asia Pacific Film Festival, the same award won by the great legend Tan Sri P. Ramlee reiterated that self identity should be strengthened by always holding on to the genuine Malay culture that is the focal point of Malaysian lifestyle since time immemorial.
Earlier, the President of PPUMS, No’man Hj. Ahmad in speech said that the organising of this talk is in response to the Vice-Chancellor’s message themed Building Culture Excellence Exploring the Future. Thus, he hoped that all those present would be able to propagate these newly gained knowledge to their counterparts who were not able to be present so that they would also gain from it and together strive to bring the university forward.
“Indeed this cultural knowledge should be practiced by all staff and students befitting the function of UMS as a knowledge institution,” he urged. Also present at the function was the Vice-Chancellor of UMS, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Harun Abdullah and the Registrar, Datuk Abdullah Hj. Mohd. Said.
