UMS Encourages Students to Engage in Community Service Programme

Gudon-5245MONDAY, 18 MAY – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) stepped up to response to the Ministry of Education’s call to promote students through Community Service Programme.

Vice-Chancellor of UMS, Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd. Harun Abdullah said, the approach helped UMS to get close to the public and to stimulate interest among school students to continue their studies in Public Universities (UA) especially at UMS.

“It is also in line with the Ministry of Education’s NKRA that welcomes all UA students in Malaysia to engage in community relations programmes,” he said when speaking at the opening ceremony of the Community Networking Programme in Kampung Gudon, Menggatal.

He said UMS’ involvement through community-based activities were fully supported especially when it was seen as a catalyst to improve the soft skills of students.

“My deepest appreciation to all the committee members for working very hard to make this community service programme a success,” he said.

Also present were Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni, Associate Professor Dr. Ismail Ali and Acting Registrar, No’man Datuk Haji Ahmad. – SS (fl)
