Good Response for UMS and Papar Community Gathering

bersama pemimpin paparTUESDAY, 12 MAY – A programme involving Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and several government agencies with the Papar community, especially residents of Kampung Seberang Benoni, Papar was well received by the community around Papar.

Organised by the Centre for the Promotion of Knowledge and Language (PPIB) UMS for the third consecutive time, the same programme was conducted at Kampung Lohan, Ranau and As-Sakinah Orphanage at Putatan the year before.

The programme named ‘A Day With Benoni Community Leader and Community’ was officiated by the Assemblyman of N22 Pantai Manis, Datuk Haji Abdul Rahim Ismail.

In his opening speech, he was proud to see UMS community consisted of various professions and academia to contribute to the field of local communities, thus continuing the legacy of community development through education.

He stressed the importance of education as a potent weapon to deal with the problem of poverty amongst the people of the state.

“Sabah used to have a relatively high level of poverty, and UMS was subsequently established to provide higher education opportunities to the local communities.

“Today, many Sabahans have not only education at Bachelor level but also Masters and Doctorate level covering various fields, which goes to show that education can change the fate of our local children,” he said.

The one-day programme at the Multipurpose Hall of Kampung Seberang Benoni, Papar saw many activities held such as educational talk and English language motivational talk, GST briefing by representatives of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs (KPDNKK), as well as a talk by the Malaysian Royal Police. – MA (fl)
