Datuk Harun, Reappointed as Vice-Chancellor of UMS

vcMONDAY, 22 JUNE – Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah will continue to hold office as Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) until 2017.The re-appointment was announced in writing by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Malaysia, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in an official letter issued last Friday.According to him, pursuant to the provisions under Section 12 (1) UMS Constitution, Datuk Harun's re-appointment took effect from 18 June 2015 until 17 June 2017. Tan Sri Muhyiddin also congratulated Datuk Harun and hoped he would give his best and bring excellence to the university.Meanwhile, Datuk Harun when met expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Education for entrusting him to continue leading UMS. He said, he would work to ensure that this EcoCampus university remain competitive and continue to move forward towards reaching excellence in various fields. “Thank you to all staff and students of UMS who are always supporting me over the years throughout my tenure as the Vice-Chancellor. “I believe the harmony we enjoy is a blessing and an asset for the university in continuing to propel towards intellectual development which is the pride of the people of Sabah,” he said, adding that his appointment was a gift from Allah especially during the month of Ramadan Al-Mubarak.The re-appointment means that Datuk Harun will continue to head the university as its Vice-Chancellor for another term of two years. Also re-appointed is Professor Dr. Shahril Yusof who remain as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Innovation UMS until 2017 with effect from 1 July 2015. – SS (fl)
