THURSDAY, 12 NOVEMBER – The handing over of duties of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Registrar, Lt. Col. (H) Datuk Hj. Abdullah Hj. Mohd Said as held at Galeri Majlis (the Gallery), Chancellery Building recently.

The handover of duties was received by the Acting Registrar, No’man Datuk Hj Ahmad and was witnessed by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (TNC) Student Affairs and Alumni (HEPA), Associate Professor  Dr. Ismail Ali, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah.

Dr. Ismail said, the contributions given by Datuk Abdullah was priceless as he was amongst the earliest staff employed by UMS since its inception.

“UMS is very grateful for the services rendered by Datuk Abdullah for more than 20 years in managing UMS starting as an Assistant Registrar until his last post as the Registrar,” said Dr. Ismail in front of more than 150 UMS staff.

Meanwhile, Datuk Abdullah when giving his speech urged all employees of UMS to come together and create the feeling of affection and love for UMS.

“UMS community should inculcate the spirit of harmony, love and struggle to bring excellence to the university, this is what I can see and feel until today,” he said.

Datuk Abdullah also praised the efficiency in governing the university, particularly the Human Resource Division (HRD), under the Registrar Department that had been managing the welfare of each staff with excellence.

“HRD is an important division that regulates staff appointments, promotion and retirement.  UMS through HRD celebrates my retirement earlier than the normal date, of which I am very grateful,” he said.

Datuk Abdullah also praised the management for holding such event to appreciate its staff regardless of their grades as this would instil in them the love for UMS.

Concluding the ceremony, Datuk Abdullah also clocked-out for the last time as a civil servant, at the lobby of the Chancellery Building.

“Please continue the struggle and UMS will continue to prosper,” he said, as his word of advise for UMS staff.

Also present and witnessing this historic event were Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Shahril Yusof, principal and senior officers as well as staff of UMS. – CD (fl)
