UMS Organises Creative Industry Seminar 2015

WEDNESDAY, 9 DECEMBER – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) through the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage (FKSW) and the Borneo Heritage Research Unit (BohRU), National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), the Association of Film Makers Sabah (FILEMS) and the National Council of Professors (History Cluster, Heritage and Socio-Cultural) will be organising the Sabah Creative Industry Seminar on 15 December 2015, at Dewan Resital (Recital Hall), UMS starting from 8.00 am until 5.00 pm.

The Dean of FKSW, Professor Dato’ Mohd. Hamdan Hj Adnan said, the seminar aimed to expose participants to the latest development of creative industry, especially in Sabah.

He said, through the seminar participants would be able to gain knowledge and experience from those who had long been involved in the creative industry.

“Among the panel are FINAS Director General, Dato’ Kamil Othman who will deliver a lecture on filming and the community, and the Director of FINAS Creative Content and Ecosystem, Faridah Jaffar who will explain on the role of Pitching Centre and Creative Content Ecosystem,” he added.

The seminar would also invite the Chairman of the Creative Content Industry Guild (CCIG), Dato’ Jurey Latif Rosli to talk on the importance of professionalism amongst the creative industry fraternity and how CCIG play their part to recognise experts of creative industry players.

“We also invite Tentera Dulang, who is a successful entrepreneur in the business related to creative industry namely digital printing.  As an entrepreneur who started from scratch, Tentera’s experience which includes business exploration in the creative industry is useful to all players to start their own business,” he explained.

IProf. Hamdan also added that UMS lecturer who is also a singer, composer and local producer who is active in producing albums for Sabah market, Andrew Poninting better know as ‘Apai’ would also be sharing his experience and knowledge of the music industry in Sabah and the challenges faced by the industry.

The seminar will be officiated by the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia, YB Senator Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Mohd. Salleh Tun Said Keruak is expected to register 400 participants, comprising students and players in Sabah.

The seminar is expected to be the starting point for the development of creative industries in Sabah before the start of 2016, that are anticipated to provide more positive development on the progress of creative industry in Sabah.
