Official Visit Made to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste

MONDAY, 29 FEBRUARY – A delegation from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) recently made a three-day official visit to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.

The objective of this visit was to pay courtesy calls to the Ambassador of Malaysia to Timor-Leste, Her Excellency Chitra Devi Ramiah and several other ministers of Timor-Leste, and to welcome new students of the Oil and Gas Programme, Faculty of Engineering (FKJ), UMS.

This was the first visit to the ambassador by a delegation from UMS, and Her Excellency Chitra Devi Ramiah also accompanied the delegation on all their official visits.

The courtesy call also included the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources, where they presented acceptance letter to 20 students from Timor-Leste to UMS who were registered for the Diploma in Oil and Gas Engineering, FKJ.

The delegation also paid a visit to the Office of the Education Minister II, Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, His Excellency Abel Da Costa Ximenes.  Among the agenda discussed and agreed upon at the closed-door meeting were a return visit by the Education Ministry of Timor-Leste to UMS in April 2016, knowledge-sharing sessions and the sending off of lecturers from around universities around Timor-Leste to the Academicians and Students Mobility Programme.

The delegation concluded their visit to the Minister of Strategic Planning and Investment, His Excellency Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão to discuss on a collaboration in organising trainings in the field of finance, human resource, and Management Planning. 

UMS had also presented an appointment letter to His Excellency Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão as the Patron for UMS Alumni for the Asia Pacific Chapter.

Finally, UMS had a meeting session with the rectors of Timor-Leste Universities and one of the agendas discussed was a collaboration for the Post-Doctoral studies at UMS.

UMS delegation was headed by a member of the Board of Directors Ums, Datuk Dr. Haji Yusof bin Hj Yacob; UMS Registrar, No’man Hj Ahmad; Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Ir. Dr. Rosalam Hj Sarbatly; Dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Education, Professor Dr. Ismail Ibrahim; Director of Centre for International Affairs, Molly Donna Awang Sham and Senior Lecturer, Dr. Jidon @ Adrian Janaun of FKJ. – FL
