Food Scientists to Use Technology in Food Industry

saintis makananMONDAY, 27 JANUARY – The new role of food scientists nowadays was to encourage the use of technology in food industry.

This was revealed by food expert, Prof. Dr. Inteaz Alli from the Food Science Department, McGill University, Canada during his lecture series at the Seminar Room, School of Food Science and Nutrition (SSMP), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

He said that it was an important role in meeting the needs of consumers who thirsts for new technology and food products.

“With the use of technology, it would be able to meet the desired food quality including ensuring that the food taken do not pose a risk to health,” he stated. Also present was the Dean of SSMP, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sharifudin Md. Shaarani.

Dr. Inteaz also spoke about dietary laws which he deemed as necessary to have them constantly reviewed in line with the modernisation of globalisation to ensure food safety and quality were always guaranteed.

“For example, the U.S. Food Safety Modernisation Act 2010 and the Food Security Act of Canada for Canadians 2012 were adjusted to remain relevant with the course of time,” he added.

Earlier, Dr. Sharifudin in his welcome speech said that he was very grateful to Dr. Inteaz for sharing his knowledge to UMS staff. He also urged all attendees to take advantage of the opportunity to gain as much knowledge as possible.

Approximately 50 academic staff and postgraduate students of UMS attended the lecture series entitled ‘Food Quality/Food Safety Certifications and Food Traceability Integration’. – SS (FL)
