Murid KM KALFRIDAY, 31 OCTOBER – A total of 74 Year 6 pupils from Kota Marudu were excited to visit Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL), yesterday.

The pupils who were from eight primary schools of Kota Marudu village hostels were accompanied by 32 teachers and organisers.

The eight primary schools were Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Taringai Darat, SK Lampada, SK Korumoko and SK Marak Parak.

Four other schools were SK Malangkap, SK Gana, SK Samparita and SK Simpangan.

Secondary Co-curriculum Assistant Officer, District Education Officer (PPD), Kota Marudu, Jimson Majimal said the study tour was to provide an opportunity and exposure to students from rural areas to enjoy the atmosphere at the Federal Territory of Labuan.

He said, the visit would encourage the pupils to strive harder and continue their higher education in higher learning institutions (IPTA), particularly UMS, either in Kota Kinabalu, Labuan or Sandakan.

Deputy Registrar of UMSKAL, Zamri Mohamad Tuah representing UMSKAL Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murnizam Haji Halik thanked the pupils and teachers from Kota Marudu who made UMS their main destination in their trip to the tax-free island.

He hoped that the exposure to the university would be able to attract more students from this district to continue their education at UMS Labuan. – SS (fl)
