UMS Athlete, Emmy Akhim was crowned the Best Female Athlete at the recent Malaysian Universities Sports Council (MASUM), jointly organised by the Higher Education Ministry (KPT) and Univerisiti Malaya (UM) Kuala Lumpur 2013.
Emmy Akhim, 22 was chosen the Best Female Athlete based on her achievement in collecting 2 gold medals in the 400 metre and 400 metre hurdles events and broke the old record of the championship and grabbed the Sabah Sports (SAGA) Best Female Athlete title in 2011 held in Keningau. She snatched the gold medal in the 400 metre hurdles event at the SUKMA Games with a record of 64.21 secs.
Emmy Akhim was also named Best Athlete at the recent UMS Schools Sports Meet. She broke the records of both the 400 metre and 400 metres hurdles events. Her strength, sacrifices and spirit in all her trainings bore fruit when she broke the record in the 400 metre hurdles at MASUM recently.
Emmy Akhim hails from the district of Tambunan, Sabah and is a second year student at the School of Education and Social Development (SPPS) and UMS is proud of her achievements. When met, she said that these accomplishments were like an inspiration for her to continue with her outstanding performances in future. She added that her success was because of the strong mental and discipline which she instilled in herself.
“My achievement as MASUM Female Athlete this time inspired me to strive for success in whatever fields I endeavour which indirectly fuels my desire to better myself in future championships,” she said. - FL
