4th Inaugural Lecture Series Held Today

ProfSyedLecture1MONDAY, 29 SEPTEMBER – An Inaugural Lecture series which featured Prof. Dr. Syed Azizi Wafa Syed Khalid Wafa was held at the Dewan Resital (Recital Hall), Universiti Malaysia Sabah today.

The forth edition of this inaugural lecture series carried the title ‘Management Styles of Malaysian Managers: A Cross-Cultural Perspective.’

Prof. Dr. Syed Azizi Wafa, who is attached to the Faculty of Business, Economics and Accountancy (FPEP) in his lecture said that values are the most permanent and important dimension in explaining culture.

“The management styles and practices of managers in various countries are expected to be different as a result of them being brought up in different cultural environments,” said Prof. Dr. Syed Azizi Wafa, joined UMS on 6 June 2000 as an Associate Professor. He was promoted to Professor in 2005 and had held various posts such as the Dean of (the then) School of Business and Economics, Director of Labuan International Campus and Head of UMS Publication Unit.

Earlier, in reading Prof. Dr. Syed Azizi Wafa’s encomium, Datuk Harun also mentioned that he was responsible for developing the Master of Business Administration and the Human Capital Management Programmes offered in UMS.

Also present at the event were UMS Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Harun Abdullah who also read the encomium of Prof. Dr. Syed Azizi; Registrar of UMS, Datuk Abdullah Hj. Mohd. Said; Head Librarian, Dg Rukiah Ag Amit including Senior Officers of UMS.

The Inaugural Lecture is a culture for academicians and an essential part of academic life in universities. It is held to commemorate the inaugural speaker’s position to full professorship. – FL
