MALAYSIADAYDISCUSSIONWEDNESDAY, 18 SEPTEMBER – The School of Social Sciences (SSS), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) took a proactive role in organising a forum recently entitled ‘Malaysia Day Discussion’ in conjunction with the 50th year formation of Malaysia.

The programme which was in collaboration with the Promotion of Human Rights Movement (PROHAM) and UMS Kadazandusun Chair had created a room for discussion for both UMS staff and students to share their ideas especially in the development of the state.

Issues such as overall development of human capital, the vision of Sabah and human rights were discussed between the panel and those who were present.

According to the Dean of SSS, Prof. Dato’ Hj. Mohd. Hamdan Adnan, this forum hopes to find solutions to the issues raised.

“Accurate reporting by the media is important to help the community know their rights as sons of the soil,” he added.

The forum featured PROHAM Chairman, Tan Sri Simon Sipaun; Dean of SSS, Prof. Dato’ Hj. Mohd. Hamdan Adnan; UMS Kadazandusun Chair, Prof. Dr. Jacqueline Pugh-Kitingan and the Head of International Relations Programme, Suzalie Mohamad as the panel with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Ethnic Research Institute Head Fellow, Datuk Dr. Denison Jayasooria as the moderator. – FL
