UMS Spread Environmental Heritage Knowledge through Friend of Borneensis

Borneensis-8883TUESDAY, 17th MARCH – Universiti Malaysia Sabah committed to share their research findings and knowledge on environmental heritage with the community, particularly the younger generation.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah said, UMS Friend of Borneensis was planned to promote environmental education in Sabah, especially in Kota Kinabalu and Kota Belud.

“This programme can become the platform to expose the students about environment and the importance of nature,” he said during the closing ceremony UMS Friend of Borneensis 2015 Programme.

He added that the effectiveness of the environmental education programme, by using collection of biodiversity specimens, is important in order to create awareness to the younger generation to get involved in conserving the natures and doing research in the future.

“Through this programme, the students need to interact and work in a team even though they come from different schools,” he added.

This programme was organised by Institute for Tropical Biology and Conservation (IBTP) with the Sabah Education Department collaboration. Also present was UMS Chairman of the Board of Directors, Tun Dato’ Seri Zaki Tun Azmi. -SS (JA)
