WEDNESDAY, 20 AUGUST – The sports championship organise for the Institutions of Higher Learning in Borneo enable to scout potential talents in Borneo to be brought up into the national and international level sports championship.

According to Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah, it is a right effort to organise the championship as this provide an equal opportunity to all undergraduate students studying in Borneo to compete among them as this was held in Peninsular Malaysia.

“The championship also gave an opportunity to the students to organise a grand event involving various IPT,” he said in his opening remark on the officiating of the 3rd University Students Games (SUKMAB).

He added, the knowledge and exposure obtained from the experience is precious in shaping the students’ personality when become a graduate later on.

On this SUKMAB edition, seven type of sports is competed; futsal, volleyball, beach volleyball, sepak takraw, table tennis, chess and petanque.

The opening ceremony is officiated by Sabah Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Hj. Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan. -SS (JU)
