The Faculty of Education and Sports Studies is currently offering the largest and varied postgraduate programs. Our faculty is striving to pioneer postgraduate education as we have a large population of postgraduate students with the strength of nearly over 300 students. The postgraduate study program can be completed through coursework and research.

Requirement

Prospective students should have a Bachelor Degree with Honors, Teaching Diploma or Certificate or Bachelor Degree in Education with Honors for education program or related to any specialization from any institution of higher education recognized by the Senate.

Entry for a Ph.D (research): -
Prospective students should have a Masters Degree related to any specialization from any institution of higher education recognized by the Senate.

Conferment of Degree

Research-based students need to complete a thesis and pass the internal and external review boards.

Admission

Master Programme

2.1.1 Candidates who wish to enroll in a Master's degree program must meet the following requirements:

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in a related field from any Institution of Higher Learning recognized by the relevant university senate and obtain a minimum CGPA of 2.75; or

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in a related field with a CGPA of at least 2.50 but less than 2.75, may be admitted subject to a thorough internal assessment; or

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in a related field with a CGPA of at least 2.00 but less than 2.50, may be admitted subject to a minimum of five (5) years of work experience in a related field and a thorough internal assessment; or

  • Candidates without qualifications or work experience in a related field must pass prerequisite courses determined by the Faculty/Center/Academy/Institute by achieving the minimum CGPA based on sub-clauses 2.1.1 (a), (b), and (c) above.

  • Pass APEL (subject to programs permitted by MQA); or

  • Other conditions stipulated by the Faculty/Center/Academy/Institute and approved by the Senate.
Doctor of Philosophy Programme

2.3.1 Possess a Master's degree in a related field from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Senate; or

2.3.2 Possess other qualifications equivalent to a Master's degree in a related field and recognized by the Government of Malaysia; and

2.3.2A Candidates without qualifications or work experience in a related field must pass prerequisite courses determined by the Faculty/Center/Academy/Institute.

2.3.3 Other conditions stipulated by the Faculty/Center/Academy/Institute and approved by the Senate.

Fast Track Programme

2.3.4 Fast Track Pathway: Excellent Bachelor's Degree Graduates at Level 6 of the Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF) with the following conditions:

  • The student obtained a first-class Bachelor's degree or its equivalent; or

  • Obtained a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 3.67 or its equivalent from an academic program or a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program; and

  • A thorough internal assessment by the University; and

  • Obtained approval from the University Senate and admitted as a candidacy for the Doctoral program at MQF Level 8. Students must demonstrate appropriate progress as outlined in the University's Fast Track Guidelines.

  • Students will not be awarded a Master's qualification as an exit award if they do not meet the achievements at the Doctoral level

International Candidates

  • Band 5 in the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) or a score of 40 in the TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or a score of 47 in PTE (Pearson Test of English); or

  • Band 3.5 in the MUET examination; or

  • Be required to attend a six (6) month Certificate in Progressive English Programme (PEP) with a maximum duration of two (2) years and Pass MUET Band 3.5; or

  • International students originating from countries where English is the official language; or

  • International students who used academic qualifications from institutions where English is the sole medium of instruction and must submit supporting documents from their respective institutions of higher learning.

  • Candidates who obtained a degree from any university in Malaysia; or

  • Their study program does not require the use of English.

  • The study program stipulates a higher English language qualification requirement than stated and approved by the University Senate.

Curriculum Information

Students will have to undergo four semesters of coursework-based study at Masters Level. Coursework mode is implemented only during weekends (Saturday and Sunday). Lectures for each course for one semester 2 courses with 4 credits each will be offered for each semester. Students have to complete the course work given and have to sit for examinations each semester. Presentation for dissertation proposal will take place in the third semester and submission of the complete dissertation is in the fourth semester.
