CONGRATULATING MALAYSIA ON 60 YEARS OF 'MERDEKA'

The diversity of Malaysian culture is captured at the Tugu Negara as Ambassador Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir was recently joined by a colorful cast of the embassy’s local staff members dressed in traditional garb showcasing the country’s multiculturalism for an Embassy video celebrating Malaysia’s 60th Independence Day.
At midnight, U.S. Embassy Kuala Lumpur will release a video commemorating the 60th anniversary of Malaysian independence and celebrating 60 years of bilateral relations with the United States.
The video, featuring Ambassador Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir and Malaysian members of the embassy community, was shot on location at Melaka’s Memorial Pengisytiharan Kemerdekaan and the Tugu Negara and Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur.
“We are proud to have embraced an independent Malaysia since its inception in 1957,” said Amb. Lakhdhir. “And today the ties between our two countries are as strong as ever and continue to deepen and expand.”
