TUESDAY, 03 SEPTEMBER –
Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has set up its Common Use Instrumentation Laboratory in an effort to save cost at this EcoCampus University.
According to the Vice-Chancellor of UMS, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah, the setting up of the lab is a wise move as it would increase common use facilities and at the same time maximise its use.
“The setting up of this common use lab would surely enhance research activities, helps in the teaching activities besides generating income through its services to external industries,” he said at the launching of the lab at the School of Science and Technology UMS.
Datuk Dr. Harun said that the lab would be managed by the Instrumentation Unit, Research and Innovation Centre as a first step towards the setting up of the Instrumentation and Measurement Centre under UMS Strategic Planning until the year 2020.
He added that its set up was timely as it could improve the level of expertise and competency of UMS lab staff as a whole.
The Vice-Chancellor also announced that UMS would be setting up an Integrated Research Laboratory in the year 2014.
He said the service would help in the implementation of facility management efficiently.
Also present was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic and International, Prof. Dr. Shariff AK Omang, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Shahril Yusof and the Director of Research and Innovation Centre UMS, Prof. Dr. Felix Tongkul. – FL
