REFERENCE COLLECTION LAB

REFERENCE COLLECTION LAB

BMRI Marine Reference Collection, consists of material collected primarily from Sabah’s coastal waters, but also includes from its neighboring state Sarawak.

 

The collection also consists of shark and ray specimens from the East China Sea off Taiwan, donated by the Institute of Zoology, Academia Sinica, Taiwan. Additionally, a vast amount of the marine collection was also inherited from JabatanSainsLaut, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (Sabah Campus), which has ceased to exist after inauguration of Universiti Malaysia Sabah in 1994.

 

The collection contains several type specimens of corals, whiptailed stingrays and invertebrates (metazoan parasite of whiptailed stingrays). Specimens in the collection are registered following the ISSCAAP Code (International Standard Statistical Classification of Aquatic Animals and Plants) of the FAO, in which he acronym of the collection is ‘IPMB’ (InstitutPenyelidikan Marin Borneo).
