Preparatory Center for Science and Technology was established on 25th January 2010. Initially, the center was administered under the School of Science and Technology to run the Science Foundation Program. This center aims to equip students with solid foundation and keen interest in science in order to pursue an undergraduate degree in Universiti Malaysia Sabah. The foundation programs offered by Preparatory Center for Science and Technology will be added from time to time in line with the development of education such as Economics and Management Sciences Foundation Program and Sport Science Foundation Program.

The Science Foundation Program aims to produce students with solid fundamental knowledge in science and become the feeder of science programs in Universiti Malaysia Sabah. In addition, this program also serves to give opportunities to the candidates who wish to pursue an undergraduate degree in Universiti Malaysia Sabah through the ministry main channel (UPU). The curriculum structure of Science Foundation Program has the qualification and skill in science that meets the requirement of programs provided by the faculties in Universiti Malaysia Sabah.
