:  UPDATING LECTURER'S PROFILE AND PUBLICATION INFORMATION IN GOOGLE SCHOLAR

 

Activities and the needs of Webometrics criteria requires lecturers to register and update their profile and publication information. This is very important to ensure the information is clear, accurate and give a good impact to personal image and academic impact of the researchers or even to the university.

UMS Webometric Implementation Team will monitor the progress from time to time.

INSTITUTIONAL BIOSAFETY COMMITTEE (IBC) OF UMS
SUBJECT
RESEARCH  INVOLVING THE PRODUCTION OF GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS (GMO) OR LIVING   MODIFIED ORGANISM (LMO)
 

On behalf of the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) of UMS, addressing all researchers (principle investigators) conducting research activities involving Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) or Living Modified Organism (LMO) at UMS especially those related to modern Biotechnology.

IBC of  UMS has been established specifically (but not limited) to evaluate all projects involving LMO/GMO conducted at University that fall outside of the exemptions that are still active or currently being planned to be conducted. The principle investigators (PIs) are to submit (upload) the relevent forms to IBC to be evaluated which in turn will be submited to National Biosafety Board (NBB) under the ministry of Natural Resources and Enviroment (NRE) for approval.

Under the Malaysian Biosafety Act 2007 (Act 678) the following could be subjected to the principle investigator (PI) and Institution failing to comply with the Act:

  1.  Penalties to individuals of up to RM250k and/or imprisonment of not exceeding 5 years (Section 26 part a).
  2. Penalties to a body corporate (in this case, UMS) of a fine not exceeding RM500k (Section 26 part b)
  3. Sealing off and closing of the premises (section 44).

The IBC would like to bring your attention to these TWO (2) items below:

  1. Research involving LMO/GMO that is not exempted: The highest priority would be to report any LMO/GMO related work that is currently being conducted or planned to be conducted (within 3 months). Please fill in the relevant forms (A to E) and submit your forms (pdf or word doc) file by uploading it at the UMS's IBC resource site. (Part E at http://www.ums.edu.my/ipb/IBC/). Alternatively you could submit the relevant form to this address:

  1. Research involving LMO/GMO that is exempted: As a measure recommended by National Biosafety Board (NBB), the IBC would like to also maintain a list of LMO/GMO that's exempted. Each PI is required to fill the online form for any activities regarding LMO that was conducted in the year of 2015 and the expected end (Month and Year) of the research.  Please submit the online forms for activities conducted in the year 2015 by 26th February 2016. Whenever a future project starts from now onwards, please fill in the online form. A reminder will be sent out at the end of each year for PIs to fill the form for the activities of the year. The Ethnography and Development Research Unit of the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage is co-organising the 10th International Malaysian Studies Conference on 15 to 17 August 2016, with PSSM and IKMAS.
