Biotechnology Young Ambassador Programme

BRI1THURSDAY, 12 FEBRUARY – Five Form Six students from the Kinabalu International School, Kota Kinabalu participated in the Biotechnology Research Institute’s (IPB) Outreach Programme. They were accompanied by two of their teachers.

According to a statement issued by IPB, the aim of the programme was to introduce to school students to the field of biotechnology research and the potential career opportunities in this advancing field.

As part of the activity, students were given inspired biotechnology related career talks and toured the different IPB’s advanced facilities including Genomic, Biochemistry, Natural Product Laboratories and Instrumentation and Transgenic Biosafety Level-3 facilities.

The statement also stated that all participants were given hands-on experience in DNA extraction using ‘Gene in a Bottle Kit’, which was then followed by a quiz session.

The students showed great enthusiasm during the activities, which indicated a very promising opportunity for the organisers. – FL
